can't establish connection

Post by tecraccoon »

When i try to login into the FTP I get the can't establish connection error.

I've tried several combinations of the host entry and the username, none have worked.

I'm on DSL and have the passive activated. I've tried it without the passive as well it didn't work either.

I installed 2 other FTP Clients and those didn't work, nor will my update on my anti-virus work automatically, I have to update manually for it.

I know it has something to do with my computer's settings or something since it's affecting all these programs. All my other programs work fine so it's only when i try to connect for the FTP or anti-virus update.

It HAS worked in the past as well.

If anyone could help me out i'd greatly appreciate it!

thanks!

there were some exceptions that weren't enabled, but after adding those programs, it's still not working.

disabled the XP Firewall and i'm still getting the same error 8^\

the only other firewall I MIGHT have is my browser (Mozilla Firefox) firewall. I don't think my anti-virus (AVG) would be blocking it....

ok just tried connecting as anonymaous to ftp.microsoft.com and no dice. I do have Norton Firewall but it's disabled as I use the Windows XP firewall instead. At the moment the XP is disabled also and it's still not working. I can access my server ftp through my browser but i'm unable to upload by that method should i need to access another ftp for work. My server spent almost a week with me on checking their server ftp and found no problems, and others have been able to access it no problem. So in a nutshell, it's my system that's preventing me.

What's bugging me is that the Core FTP has worked before, and now it's not but i think it's started since installing service pack 2. BUT, i've followed the directions of adding both AVG and Core FTP as exceptions and neither are working still even after a reboot.

There are things all over in XP about using passive FTP, and i'm wondering if i've just missed one someplace, or have a wrong one selected?

Internet Options advanced has a selection about using the passive.
Core FTP has the passive selection and XP Firewall has it listed in the exceptions and exceptions are being allowed.

I'm virus free according to AVG, and even if i wasn't i'm sure i wouldn't be able to connect to anything at all if that was the case.
