How do I unzip a file that is already on my server?

Hey, I want to upload a zipped file (phpbb forum) to my server (i know how to do that). Then once it is uploaded to my server how do I unzip it from there using core ftp? please include many details, im new to core ftp. Thank you

What is telnet? can someone explain to me step by step how to unzip a file already on my server. I am a beginner to ftp. Thank you.
