Cannot establish connection (XP firewall)

Post by heagar »

I have tried to establish a connection and cannot do it. I even did the test one that you recommended in another post. Cannot connect. The error I get is 122-5. I assume that's an error message.

This is very frustrating! Please help! I really need to use this ASAP!

Thanks!

I hate to ask this but can you explain what I'm supposed to enter by line? I'm really not computer illiterate but I'm feeling like it now! :? I just want to be sure I'm completing everything EXACTLY how it needs to be.

Were you able to get it to work?

Thanks again for your help!

This is the error I get:

Resolving ftp.ipowerweb.com...
Connect socket #384 to 216.69.226.50, port 21...
Can't establish connection --> ftp.ipowerweb.com:21 @ Wed Aug 18 23:31:42 2004 (122-5)

I unchecked everything and it still didn't work. For the Host name I put ftp.ipowerweb.com. I am supposed to have my URL in there somewhere?

Ughh...

I got the host name from iPowerweb themselves and it STILL doesn't work! Do I need to add something BEFORE the host name? I am VERY frustrated!

They have me hostXXipowerweb.com. I looked it up on the server and port 21 is supposed to be used for FTP.
I doubt very seriously the server is down, too. I've requested them check things out on their end but I don't know...

iPowerweb gave something else to try but it still isn't working. Could there be something else wrong? Do I need to have something checked/ I unchecked everything except the PAV something or other.

No, it doesn't. iPowerweb checked everything on my server and they could get an FTP to work. How do I make sure my computer is not blocking port 20 & 21? That's one thing they said to make sure about.

Have a firewall but I turned those ports on. Still didn't work. Don't have the XP update yet. Trying to figure out where else to look for the ports to be locked out. Any ideas?

Thank you so much! It worked!!!! :D

I'm a little worried to leave that off all the time since it gave me warnings about it. Would it be better to leave it on most of the time and then when I need to use FTP, turn it off?

Thank you for you help! Yeah!

Hi.
I have the same problem so I figured I should post in this thread. The difference is that I have been able to connect using another ftp client but the 30 days ran out :wink:
and I was able to connect to the netscape ftp with no problem.

this is what I try to connect with:

site name: ftp.inqwiper.zap3x.com
host/IP/URL: ftp.inqwiper.zap3x.com
username: inqwiper
password: *********

all default options. the PASV is checked because I am connected via router?

this is what happens:

Resolving ftp.inqwiper.zap3x.com...
Connect socket #772 to 198.65.164.42, port 21...
Can´t establish connection --> ftp.inqwiper.zap3x.com:21 @ Fri Oct 08 17:56:50 2004 (122-38) -edit thats 38 :wink:

I tried messing around with host name and URL but no success.
inqwiper.zap3x.com shows up in explorer.

Thanks for any help :)

Thanks :)
I checked the box and it connected this time. Problem was I was denied access when password was sent because of too many authentication failures. I just e-mailed theire support and hopefully it will be working tomorrow :)

Hi.

I'm a CoreFTP newbie. Just wondering...I too had to disable Windows Firewall (using XP) in order to use CoreFTP but I do have a current subscription to McAfee's security suite (firewall, privacy, and virusscan). So, I did not worry about being "unprotected."

Right?

anybody still out there on this topic?

Post by chenant »

I've tried just about everything:
- doublechecked my url, etc
- added coreftp as an exception in my windows firewall
- all combinations of ssl, etc

the microsoft instructions don't work (tasklist isn't a recognizable command)

is there anything else you could recommend for the 122-5 error?

do I need to manually add the port? where would I find the port name and #?

thanks!!!!

perfect! thanks!

turns out it wasn't enough for me to put coreftp on the exception list for the firewall. I still just had to turn off the firewall alltogether...

thanks for everyone's help!

Can't connect!!

Post by fabeurope.com »

Hi, I'm getting crazy here...I can't connect...I've got an error message 530 authentication failed (after my password). I'm not sure why coz I've just logged in with the same password. I retyped it million of times...

I've got XP and McAffee antivirus. I checked my internet connection firewall and is not checked.

What do you recogn the problem might be?
I'm not PC literate, so please help... :?

it has to be an incorrect password or user. What do you see when you log in (in the log)?

Not able to connect to another PC

Post by Axeme »

Greetings All,

I have recently found the desire to work with CoreFTP and try to transfer some files between family and friends.

I have windows XP pro with SP2
Norton system works 2k3
a D-link 704p router

I have set the router to allow ports 21 and22
I have gone into the windows Firewall and checked the box next to the COREFTP program.

I tried to connect to the microsoft site using these instructions:

http://www.coreftp.com/docs/web1/Connec ... server.htm

I can connect just fine using the procedures detailed in that.

However, when I try to connect to a friends machine I receive the following 2 different errors depending on which port I try:
Per his request I need to omit the ip addresses being tried

using port 21 and pasv and ssh.sftp both checked i get

looking up host:"IP address"
connecting to "address" port 21
network error: connection reset by peer
Unable to initialize SFTP: (8 squares show on my screen)followed by a "t" then in aprenthesis(spelled wrong im sure)(SFTP not enabled?)
in red i see:
Can't Establish Connection ---> "Ip Address" @ monday feb 06 Time (122-1)

If I use the same PASV and SSH settings as above I get the following using PORT 22

Looking up Host: :"IP address"
Connecting to: "IP Address" port 22
Can't Establish Connection ---> "Ip Address" @ monday feb 06 Time (122-1)

If I take ssh off i get the following:

for port 21

Connect to socket #892 to "ip address", port 21...
can't establish connection
Can't Establish Connection ---> "Ip Address" @ monday feb 06 Time (10054-38 )
An Existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.

for port 22 i get

Connect to socket #956 to "ip address", port 22...
Can't Establish Connection ---> "Ip Address" @ monday feb 06 Time (0-5)

My friend has tested and his machine will connect out to his fathers machine just fine but he can not connect to mine nor can i connect to his.

Please any ideas would be greatly appreciated, and I would be happy to try and offer any additional info that may help.

Sorry for the length of this post just trying to porvide all info.

Thanks

B.
