Service not starting domain - 2012 R2

Post by winonahealth »

Hello,
I'm creating an SFTP Server and trying to set it to start as service, but when I restart the server, I cannot connect. If I log back in, I see that the service has started and is running.

If I restart the service manually (either through Services or through the GUI), then I can connect.

I have tried recreating the service, the service is running as a domain admin instead of Local System. I am running on Windows 2012 R2, connecting through WinSCP client on another machine.

Any thoughts?
Thanks!

Make sure there is only one CoreFTPServer\config.dat on the server.

You can select it manually from global settings:
www.coreftp.com/server/help/server_global_settings.htm

If still not loading, check the event viewer to make sure there are no security issues running the service.

"Run as admin" at all times.

I have verified there is only one config.dat file on the server, and it is in the location that global settings is pointing to. I've cleared temp files as well.

According to event viewer, it seems to be starting fine. There's no difference between the server reboot and manually restarting the service. Both state "The Core FTP Server service entered the running state." without any additional details. There's nothing else running on this server, so the event viewer doesn't get too crowded, but still not seeing much.

The service is set to run as a domain admin, so I believe that it should always be running as admin.

I found some more information that may help. When I sign in with a user other than Administrator, and try to launch the Core server, it's looks as though no service is started though the GUI

I can see in Services that is running though.

When I attempt to start the service through the GUI it says "No service exists, Install?"

Any thoughts as to why it cannot see the service already started?

The service was not starting because the program was not running as administrator. I went into Compatibility Settings for the .exe and changed it to always run as admin.

I've also taken ownership of the C drive as Domain Administrators and added Domain Admins with Full Control on the C drive.

All these small changes, still unable to get the Server working after a reboot. I need to continue to open the application and restart the service to make it accessible.
Any more ideas on things I can try or check?

The only other thing I've noticed that may be worth mentioning is I cannot search Windows apps for "CoreFTP Server" and launch that way (except when signed in as Administrator). I need to navigate to the executable on the C drive and launch from there. Almost like it didn't install for all users?
