The parameter is incorrect

Post by pshaw »

I have been using Core FTP LE for several years using the same saved connections. After Windows 7 installed some updates I get:
Can't establish connection --> ftp.levitatingproductions.com:21 @ Sun Oct 09 17:08:17 2016 (87-17)
The parameter is incorrect.

I get this similar message with the other ftp connections as well. If I use another computer running Windows 10 it connects fine. I have uninstalled the updates, turned off the Windows Firewall, added rule to Windows Firewall to allow Core FTP to do anything. I am out of idea. Does anyone have any?
Thanks,
Phill

It does look like something is still blocking it...

Try connecting from a dos prompt via the ftp.exe utility

dos prompt -> ftp.exe ftp.levitatingproductions.com

(or ftp.exe levitatingproductions.com)

If there is no connection that would be more evidence of a firewall or the outbound connection being blocked.

One other option (an unlikely scenario) you can try a dns flush in case the IP of the server changed and hasn't been updated in the Win7 machine.

from a dos prompt or run

ipconfig /flushdns

When I run ftp.exe ftp.levitatingproductions.com it says unknown host, when I put ftp.levitatingproductions.com in the browser I get the logon prompt and can log in fine. How can I see what's blocking it? I don't see anything in the event log. Thanks

sounds more like a DNS issue then. Did you try the DNS flush or rebooting?

The browser might be refreshing the DNS directly in some manner.

Look at your firewall exception list. You may need to add coreftp.exe to it.
