Newbee can't get connected.

Post by GrandpaB »

I downloaded and installed Core FTP this evening and I can't connect to my ISP. Here is the error I receive:

Resolving lemmedata.com...
Can't establish connection--> lemmedata.com:21 @ Sat Oct O3
The requested name is valid, but no data of the requested type was found.

I would appreciate any insite on how to resolve this situation, thanks in advance.

Core FTP looks professional, it is free, but it doesn't work out of the box! I downloaded and installed Cute FTP Lite. It looks professional, has about the same UI as Core FTP, it costs $25 after a 30 day free trial, but it works out of the box. I will soon delete one of the two FTP programs; I hope that I can get Core FTP working soon.

CP,

Thanks for your response. I do have a question; how were you able to connect to lemmedata.com without an ID and Password? Can anyone ftp to and from my website?

I am also new here and also cannot connect the coreftp to my site/server?

I know I am running an SSL site and possibly entered the wrong IP address for this Maybe?

TIA

My Site Works Perfectly with Core FTP!!

My Site Works Perfectly with Core FTP. I couldn't be happier...happy as a pig in the sunshine!! :D

..but I do have one gripe. :( The programs interface is outdated :( and does'nt look as well as it performs for XP, or win 7 (forget about crappy Vista...but I digress). A clean new interface will do it justice. yep. Cute FTP thinks that people will pay more for it then Core FTP just because it looks better (hence the "cute" name) but for me CoreFTP gives me better control, and the most important control or feature is CoreFTP's ability to know when to transfer files ASCII and which files to transfer binary- That's great to me!!

But those of you having problems connecting to your site...try not to put the whole FQDN but just the host and top-level domain for example try just "mysite.net" instead of "ftp://www.mysite.net"

...and one more thing. When you switch from SSH/SFTP back to standard FTP be sure to change the port number back to 21. I don't know if this is a bug or what, but the program doesn't do this automatically.

If you still have problems try restarting windows as suggested by CP and everything should be easy-peasy-lemon-squeezy!! :D :D
