Unable to log on to host- 530 error message

Post by postUre »

After installing coreFTPlite I was unable to log on to my host and kept getting the following error message,,, 530 Login incorrect.

I found the solution to my problem but it took me more then several hours to figure out after reviewing many of the posts here on the forum.
I would guess that many others with WinXP who try to use coreFTPlite may be running into the same issue I had.....I am providing this information as perhaps it may help others who are experiencing a similar problem.

Initially I thought the cause was with either my home network/router or Norton AntiVirus or Norton Internet Security as I had WinXP Firewall disabled.

However I came across the following link on this forum which helped me correct the problem,,, http://support.microsoft.com/default.as ... =842242#11

Under the section "Open ports manually using Windows Firewall"

To correct the problem I had to go to Windows Firewall>Exceptions>Add Programs>coreFTP>OK>

Then I went to Add Port>21>OK

The previos settings needed to be modified even though I had WindowsXP Firewall disabled.

Once I made the adjustments to the Windows XP Firewall Settings the coreFTPlite seems to work fine. I can now use the program even with the Norton AntiVirus and Norton Internet Security and while on my wireless network behind my router.

Note: Previously I have been using the FREE version of CoffeeCupFTP and everything worked fine without making any adjustments to the XP Firewall settings.

I don't think the server was busy as I could log on normal with CoffeeCupFTP. I really think it was the WindowsXP Firewall that took care of the problem instantly.

If I would have come across that link sooner it would have saved me 4-6 hours of troubleshooting time. Most people probably would of given up and moved on to some other software.

I tried every combo of settings in the coreFTPlite global settings, tried deactivating the Norton programs,,,, and even contacted D-Link and changed firewall and virutual server settings in my router.

PS. I just started to work with coreFTPlite and like what I see so far now that I have it working!

I even emailed my host to verify my user name and password - I forgot to mention that.

I did start>run>cmd>ipconfig and the ip address that is reported was different then the router,,,

I tried using those in the coreFTPlite settings under "use NAT ip address" and that didn't help.

One other thing - The problem also occured even after I disconnected this computer from my router and hooked it directly to my Cable modem connection.

unable to log on host 530 error message

Post by adenteuling »

I bought a new pc last Saturday, passing over from Windows 98 to Windows XP. I met the same problem: 530 no connection. I tried to uninstal and download again Core FTP LE, without any difference. After some trials I found that a problem with the fire wall could not be the cause, because Core FTP was included in the exception list by the seller (a local computer shop). And all settings, names and password were correct.
The left column of the opening screen of Core ftp showed alle the files in C:/my documents, but the right one stayed blank. So I tried to fill in the boxes above the right column. And so I found out that the button quickconnection (with the lightning symbol) immediately gave entrance to my provider, even when the boxes were not filled in. And after some trials again I found that only the button connection gave the error message 530, but that all buttons "quickconnection" worked as they should do. (It is a short story, taking however several hours). It seems to me that the error is caused by a bug inor under Core's standard connection button????

I do not see an A nor U on my login (connection) screen or in the transfer screen. Is there anything else I should see? Maybe this is a language problem, if I do not understand what you mean by "log". I indeed used windows 98 formerly and now windows XP.
However, I remember that there was an error message on the transfer screen in windows 98 too. I heve forgotten which number it had, but nevertheless the transfer always was succesful, using the normal connection manager.
