CoreFTP SSH/SFTP Crash issue...

Post by Brendon K »

I can reproduce this error rather effectively and easily on my server at work, and although it's very possible it's a problem with the server's configuration (the network admin for that server has been working with it for over a year, continually tweaking it rather than starting over fresh); but I don't believe CoreFTP should just, well, die.

Steps to reproduce:
1.) Create a tarzip backup file of some other site -- ALL files. My file size is approximately 20 MB.

2.) Attempt to upload this file to a folder that you DO NOT have permission to (if need be, create a directory with a different FTP user account and restrict access via CHMOD).

3.) CoreFTP will continually retry (at least with my current settings) to upload the files (and/or MKDIR if not a single file) and end up crashing under some error message - sometimes CoreFTP realizes the fault and creates a log, other times it does not.

I don't know if I'd be able to grant access to the server here at work if it's not reproduceable due to the fact that the network admin is limiting access via IP and MAC addresses.

---

CoreFTP v1.3c LE Build 1446
Windows XP Professional SP2 - all current updates

I've already sent in one coredump.log file; if you'd like me to resend it (the most recent), please let me know. They were both for the same version/build and related problem, however, so I don't know if it would yield any extra information.

Different error, server/network related, but still caused CoreFTP to go into a hard crash:
MKD /Users/sspl/Sites/javascript/tiny_mce/themes/default/docs/sv/images
CWD /Users/sspl/Sites/javascript/tiny_mce/themes/default/docs/sv/images/
Transferred 115 bytes in 0.407 seconds
STOR /Users/sspl/Sites/javascript/tiny_mce/themes/default/docs/sv/images/insert_image_window.gif
Received disconnect message (SSH_DISCONNECT_PROTOCOL_ERROR)
Disconnection message text: Corrupted MAC on input.
Server sent disconnect message type 2 (SSH_DISCONNECT_PROTOCOL_ERROR): "Corrupted MAC on input."
insert_image_window.gif - 0 bytes transferred
CWD /Users/sspl/Sites/javascript/tiny_mce/themes/default/docs/sv/images/
Transferred 0 bytes in 0.407 seconds
STOR /Users/sspl/Sites/javascript/tiny_mce/themes/default/docs/sv/images/insert_link_window.gif
sftp keep-alive
This crash was a Windows' related crash, as it asked me to "Send an Error Report to Microsoft", with no other options. CoreFTP did not detect a problem.

The server is an in-house server. What would you like to know about it?

It's a Mac OS X server. I can find out exactly what software's handling the connections and queries (and the version of OSX) when I go back in on Monday.

I'll talk to the administrator of the server and see if he wouldn't mind creating a user with extremely minimal priviledges so that you can test it out. Unfortunately, I don't think he'll oblige, but it can't hurt to ask.
