Post upload command causing 552 error - updated

Whenever I have a post upload command enabled - staright command line or batch file - the ftp server sends a 552 Transfer aborted. Externall call failed <>.... to the FTP client transfering a file even though the transfer has completed successfully. This has been tried with various clients including CoreFTPlite and the same issue arises.
I have tried running the batch files from a different directory etc and still get the same issue.
If I remove the command I get a 226 Transfer complete response.
Any ideas on what might be causing this? Have I missed a config setting somewhere?
Following further playing around the 552 error only happens when CoreFTP Server is run as a service.
I would be grateful for any hep in this as I need to go live with this soon and all I am trying to do is transfer a ftp'd file to a fileserver outside my DMZ.
